William Goldman (1931-2018) was an American writer whose books include the novel Marathon Man (1974) and the memoir Adventures in the Screen Trade (1983). He received two Academy Awards—for best original screenplay, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), and best adapted screenplay, All the President's Men (1976).
